Atlantic Park
The Atlantikpark , in Norwegian Atlanterhavsparken - Ålesund Aquarium , is one of the largest saltwater aquariums in Northern Europe.
The Atlantic Park, opened in 1998 by King Harald V , is located west of the Norwegian city of Ålesund on the Tueneset headland on the island of Heissa, right by the sea.
The show aquarium has an exhibition area of around 4,000 m² with eleven large landscape aquariums, two open show tanks, a deep-sea aquarium and many smaller aquariums. The main attraction is a four million liter saltwater aquarium that shows the fish population off the Norwegian coast such as cod , katfish , conger eel and halibut . Other pools are dedicated to schooling fish and the monkfish . In addition, a 6,000 m² outdoor area including a small bathing beach belongs to the Atlantic Park. In the outdoor area, a seal facility was opened in autumn 2014 , which is considered the largest of its kind in Europe . Penguins are also kept there.
The aquarium has around 130,000 visitors annually. The complex also includes a café and a souvenir shop.
