As a Nuclear Security Summit ( English Nuclear Security Summit ), also nuclear summit , international conferences are called, which took place from 2010 to 2016 every two years. The aim here was to better control the worldwide spread of nuclear explosive material , in particular to prevent the danger of nuclear terrorism. Internationally, the main focus was on the stocks of weapons- grade plutonium .

The first conference took place in the USA in 2010 with 47 international government representatives and goes back to a speech given by US President Barack Obama on April 5, 2009 in Prague . In 2012 there were 53 and in 2014 there were 58 countries that participated. In addition to government officials, there are also leading members of international organizations such as the European Union , the International Atomic Energy Agency and Interpol among the participants; however, these only have observer status.
