Atomik Harmonik is a Slovenian pop band . It combines traditional Slovenian folk music with modern pop elements.

Band history

The band was founded in the summer of 2004 by the musician Jani Pavec , who had the idea of a party band while on vacation in Crete . Together with the musician Dejan Čelik and the two singers Špela Kleinlercher and Špela Grošelj , he recorded the song Brizgalna Brizga in autumn 2004 . The single and the album Brizgaaaaj! rose to number 1 on the Slovenian charts within a short time and stayed there for several months.

Due to this success, the Italian production team Bliss Corporation , which had previously led bands like Eiffel 65 and Haiducii to international success, became aware of Atomik Harmonik. They recorded eight new versions of "Brizgalna Brizga" with the band under the title Turbo Polka in English.

The single Turbo Polka became a popular hit on the ski slopes of the Alps in the winter of 2004/05. After the single was released commercially, it hit the charts in both Austria and Germany.

In 2006 Atomik Harmonik took part in the Slovenian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the title Polkaholik and reached the 3rd place, because the jury did not give it a single point, but the audience by phone and SMS clearly voted for it with 10 points each.

A short time later, Špela Kleinlercher left the group. Her successor was Iris Soban, who left the band after two weeks. Today they have a new member, Mateja, affectionately called Tejči.
