Attila the Stockbroker (* 21st October 1957 in Southwick in West Sussex as John Baine ) is an English song writer, musician and poet.

history

Inspired by the spirit of the Do-It-Yourself ethos of punk rock and by The Clash with its radical political stance, John Baine began performing in 1980. In 1994, Attila founded the band Barnstormer. A prominent founding member was Ray Burns, aka Captain Sensible of The Damned . But he got out a short time later to pursue his solo career. Barnstormer released their debut album "The Siege of Shoreham" in 1996; their second album "Just One Life" came out in October 2000 and the last album "Zero Tolerance" in March 2004. They tour all over Europe. Attila has also been the official poet ("Poet in Residence") of the Brighton & Hove Albion football club since 2000 . He also brought out volumes of poetry. In 2000 he appeared in the German film "Doppelpack" by Matthias Lehmann. In 2015, Baine published his autobiography Arguments Yard: Thirty Five Years of Ranting Verse and Thrash Mandola on Cherry Red Books . His career is the subject of the documentary film 35 Years A Punk Poet by British filmmaker Farouq Suleiman , released in 2017 .
