The Auchenoglanididae are a fish family from the order of the catfish-like (Siluriformes) living in fresh waters of Africa . The genera of the Auchenoglanididae were originally part of the spiny catfish (Bagridae, or the subfamily Auchenoglaninae), later they were assigned to the Claroteidae as the subfamily Auchenoglanidinae . In the fourth edition of Fishes of the World , a standard work on fish systematics, they form an independent family.
features
Common features of the family are the rounded caudal fin and the position of the posterior nostrils on the sides of the upper lip. The species of the Auchenoglanidae are 5.5 to 70 centimeters long.
