Auchroisk [ˈɔ: xrɔɪ̯sk] is a whiskey distillery near Mulben , Banffshire , Scotland , UK . It is not far from the Glentauchers distillery.
history
The distillery was built from 1972 to 1974 by International Distillers & Vintners Ltd (IDV) . Originally it was built to make malt whiskey for blends . The quality of the product was so good that in 1978 a singleton particular with 43% was bottled for the Japanese market. This makes Auchroisk the first Scottish distillery to bottle such a young (just over the prescribed three years) single malt.
In 1975 the distillery was taken over by Watney Mann and in the same year by Grand Metropolitan and is therefore now part of Diageo .
production
The water of the distillery, which belongs to the Highlands / Speyside region, comes from Dorie's Spring. The malt is obtained from Pauls Malt in Carnoustie. The distillery has a mash tun ( mash tun ) (11.2 tons) made of stainless steel and eight fermentation vats ( wash backs ) (51,000 l each). Distillation takes place in four wash stills (12,700 l each) and four spirit stills (7,900 l each), which are heated by steam from an oil-heated boiler.
Bottlings
In addition to a 10-year-old from the Flora and Fauna series, there is a 28-year-old from the Rare Malts series. It dates from 1974, the first year that whiskey was produced in Auchroisk.
