The road to the St. Nicholas cemetery in the city area Old Town in Stralsund connects the Semlower road at Altenmarkt with Baden Street . A passage leads to Bechermacherstraße . The street, which is part of the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar, runs east and south along the St. Nikolai Church .

The street was named after the nearby parish church of St. Nikolai. Here, the cemetery was called the cemetery of the parish . The southern churchyard was one of the oldest burial places in Stralsund. It was used for funerals until the late 19th century. Then a green area was created, the linden trees on the square date from this time . Until the bombing raid on Stralsund on October 6, 1944, the northern churchyard was bordered by buildings on Semlower Strasse; these were destroyed in the attack and not rebuilt. Instead, a green area was created here in the 1970s.

Only one building is on the Sankt Nikolaikirchhof, it is under monument protection (see also the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the semi-detached house on the Sankt Nikolaikirchhof 1/2 .
