The Semlower road (also: Semlowerstraße ) in the urban area Old Town in Stralsund connects the Old Market on the corner of St. Nicholas Church with the road at the fish market and the new Semlower road . The cup maker street , the Wall Street and the waterway cross the street Semlower. The Semlower Straße is part of the core area of ​​the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

The street was named after the Semlow family, who probably came from Semlow and were one of the most powerful families in the city of Stralsund in the first centuries.

Ten of the buildings are under monument protection (see also list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ): the houses Semlower Strasse 9 , Semlower Strasse 16 , Semlower Strasse 17 , Semlower Strasse 18 , Semlower Strasse 30 , Semlower Strasse 31 , Semlower Strasse 32 , Semlower Strasse 36 , Semlower Strasse 39–41 and Semlower Strasse 42 .

In the 1930s, Semlower Strasse was a showpiece of the so-called “de-trading” .

At the end of the road towards the harbor stood until 1960, the Stralsund city fortifications belonging Semlower gate ; it was badly damaged in the bombing raid on Stralsund on October 6, 1944 . Many other buildings were destroyed in this bombing, including the gabled house No. 33. In the 1950s, 1980s and 1990s, some vacant lots were closed by new buildings; the gate had already been blown up and demolished on June 29, 1960.
