On the hunt (polka)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Schnellpolka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 373) is on the hunt . The work was performed for the first time in autumn 1875.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Cagliostro in Vienna . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 369 , 370 , 371 , 372 , and 374 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The title name of the polka has nothing to do with the plot of the operetta. The music is taken from the score numbers 4, 10 and 14. The exact date of the premiere and the corresponding location have not been recorded. It is generally assumed that the polka was premiered in late autumn 1875.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 16 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
