A polka- française by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 372) is nice , please . The work was first performed in the summer of 1875.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta Cagliostro in Vienna . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 369 , 370 , 371 , 373 and 374 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The title of the polka and its first part is taken from the song Please beautiful, please beautiful, o make us young, make us beautiful, we ask beautiful (No. 9 of the operetta score). The trio does not come from the operetta score. Strauss either recomposed this or took it from a piece originally written for the operetta, which he then did not incorporate into the operetta. In any case, musically, the music fits together. The date and place of the premiere are not known. In September 1875 it was already part of several concert programs by military bands and other entertainment orchestras. The polka remained in the repertoire of the Strauss Chapel until it was dissolved at the beginning of the 20th century.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 50 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
