Cagliostro Waltz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cagliostro Waltz is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 370). The work was composed in 1875 and premiered on June 16 of the same year in the flower rooms of the Vienna Horticultural Society.

Remarks

The composer has put the work together based on motifs from the operetta Cagliostro in Vienna . It joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 369 , 371 , 372 , 373 and 374 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The playing time is about 9 minutes 20 seconds plus minus a few seconds, depending on the musical understanding of the respective conductor. The leitmotif is the waltz duet I can fly through life with you . The entire waltz consists of only three parts. Each part in turn consists of two musical themes. In doing so, the composer breaks with his previous habit of composing five-part waltzes.
