history

As early as the 16th century, Rottenmann was the center of a Protestant parish under the lord of Burg Strechau , Hans Friedrich Hofmann (1492–1564). Of the first Protestant church from 1578/79, located in the north of the city near Thalhof Castle , only the foundation walls have been preserved.

Today's Protestant parish Rottenmann was founded in 1906 as part of the Los von Rom movement . On the initiative of their first pastor Karl Schiefermair (1875–1947), the construction of a church was planned here as early as 1908. The then still young architect Otto Bartning could be won over for the construction of the church. In the same year he also built a prayer house with a rectory in neighboring Selzthal . From the Rottenmann project - a cross-shaped extended rotunda with monumental pilasters, connected to the adjacent rectory by a massive tower - initially only the preserved rectory was implemented, which - modernized and changed by additions - in its original form with its heavy mansard roof had received. In a revised form (without the tower) the project was implemented in 1912-13 in the Heilandskirche in Krems . With these two projects, Bartning attempted “to consciously revive architectural forms of conspicuous and progressive buildings of the 16th century in Austria”, whereby “historicism and certain modern stylistic devices ... in the tradition of the 'speaking architecture' of historicism aimed to propagate a certain church policy and New Protestant piety instrumentalized ”.

The existing church was not built until fifty years later in 1958.

On the initiative of Rottenmann, the Protestant parish was founded in Admont .
