Rudolf Leeb (church historian)

Rudolf Leeb (born September 19, 1958 in Afritz am See ) is an Austrian church historian .

Life

He studied Protestant theology and art history (minor: Jewish studies ), as well as Byzantine studies in Vienna and Tübingen . In 1984 he passed the theological exam. In 1987 he obtained a master's degree in art history. From 1987 he was an assistant at the Institute for Church History, Christian Archeology and Church Art at the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Vienna. After receiving his doctorate in 1989 as Dr. theol. in the subject of church history (Constantine and Christ. The Christianization of imperial representation under Constantine the Great as a reflection of his church policy and his self-image as a Christian emperor) , the doctorate on July 4, 1994 for Dr. phil. in art history (The beginnings of Protestant church building. Investigations into the typology and iconology of early Protestant church building) and the habilitation in October 1995 for the subjects of church history, Christian archeology and church art . His work focuses on Christianization processes in late antiquity and in the early Middle Ages, Christian iconography and art in the church area (church building and visual arts in Protestantism), the history of Protestantism in Austria and the Filocalus calendar.
