At large

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is a polka- french by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 345) at large . The work was performed for the first time on February 14, 1871 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was premiered on the occasion of the Jurists' Ball in Mardi Gras in 1871. In this case it is only indirectly about a new composition. As he used to do again and again in the following years, Johann Strauss used motifs from his operettas for other musical pieces. For the Polka Auf der Freifuss he used motifs from his first operetta Indigo and the 40 Robbers . This polka thus joins a series of works (opus numbers 343 , 344 , 346 , 347 , 348 , 349 , 350 and 351 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. The content of the title goes back to a scene in the operetta, but can be understood as a legal term (e.g. after an acquittal). Hence there is also a reference to the lawyers' ball .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 14 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
