Eye (technology)
In engineering and seafaring, an eye is understood to be a detachable load-bearing device that completely encloses an opening and through which an opposing load-bearing device is inserted, such as a shackle , hook or bolt .
Examples:
- Spliced ( eye splice ) or knotted (as a single or double bowline ) eye at the end of a rope , with or without a thimble
- Welding eye , a welded triangle made of heavy sheet steel with a reinforced hole in shipbuilding , for example under a ship's stern as an assembly aid for rudders and propellers
- End of the drawbar of a truck trailer, see trailer coupling
- ring-shaped head of an eyebolt
