The August Claas School (official name: August Claas School Städt. Comprehensive School Harsewinkel - Secondary Level I -) is a comprehensive school in Harsewinkel . It is named after the founder August Claas of the local agricultural machinery manufacturer Claas .

history

The secondary school in Harsewinkel was created from the former elementary school . The city's two secondary schools, Hauptschule I and the Rincklakeschule, were merged in 1991 to form the Städt. Community secondary school Harsewinkel.

In 2008 the city council decided to name this school after the agricultural machinery manufacturer August Claas . On October 25, 2008, the new cafeteria, which was added for all-day operation, was inaugurated. At the same time, the renaming to the August Claas School was celebrated with a school party.

On December 14, 2011, the city council of Harsewinkel decided to close the school as well as the neighboring secondary school and to found a comprehensive school instead. The background to this is the falling number of registrations at the secondary school, following the general trend, and the elimination of the secondary school guarantee in the state constitution. The comprehensive school will be set up for the 2012/2013 school year and will be housed in the rooms of the August Claas School and the Realschule. Registration at the existing schools is no longer possible, but the existing classes will continue until the end of school. As long as secondary, secondary and comprehensive schools exist side by side. The termination date of the August Claas School is July 31, 2017.

Rectors

  • From the foundation in 1991 to July 1995: Otto Schmitz, who previously directed secondary school I.
  • from August 1995 to January 2003: Heinrich de Byl
  • since February 2003 until today: Hermann Hecker

particularities

The August Claas School operates an outdoor workshop in a former garden market. Here, master craftsmen of retirement age show the students their respective craft. This allows them to consolidate their career aspirations, which later has a positive effect on the transition rate to training.

A trainer as a so-called transition coach helps in the last school years with the search for an apprenticeship position and the application and also keeps in touch during the initial period of the training.

Awards

The community secondary school won the second state award of the nationwide secondary school award 2007, endowed with 3,500 euros. The background was the concept for career orientation, the career selection group for grades 9 and 10 for up to 30 students. They must not have any absent hours and must write an application essay. The transition rate to training is currently around 60% ( as of June 2012 ).

On June 12, 2012, the school was awarded the jury prize of the German School Prize 2012 .
