Ways out of loneliness e. V. is a non-profit association founded in 2007 with headquarters in Hamburg , which deals with a problem particularly affecting seniors: the increasing loneliness and social isolation due to changed living conditions.

The end of professional activities, the loss of a partner, loosened family ties, financial hardship and dwindling physical strength limit the participation of older people in social interaction more and more in many cases. Therefore, the main focus of the association's work on ways out of loneliness is on long-term projects of social inclusion .

Volunteers, cooperation partners and advocates such as TV presenter and singer Maxi Arland support the work of the association. The projects are financed through donations and membership fees; only statutory projects and initiatives are funded.

Goals and areas of impact

The board chairmen Dagmar Hirche and Helge Jans want to put the dark side of aging and being old in the center of public interest. At the same time, the association sees itself as a contact for the media and as a forum for those affected, committed and interested.

The overriding goal of ways out of loneliness e. V. is that old and young people in Germany can look forward to a long life and have the opportunity to shape their lives independently.

In order to promote the independence and social inclusion of the elderly, the association supports initiatives that benefit the elderly, their relatives and carers. In addition, own projects and competitions are initiated in order to arouse the public's attention to the aspects of aging and to anchor this topic in social awareness.

“The purpose of the association is to support old people who live in need, loneliness or illness. ... The association supports preventive projects in the areas of poverty, illness and isolation of the elderly as well as measures to help in acute situations. ... The association also realizes its purposes by providing information and educating the public about the living conditions of elderly people in Germany. "
