Germany Safe in the Net eV (DsiN) is a non-profit association based in Berlin under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

DsiN was founded at the 1st National IT Summit in 2006 to offer consumers and companies concrete assistance in using the Internet safely . More than 25 companies, associations and social initiatives are involved in the association. Together they develop target group-specific educational projects (so-called promises of action), studies and events to make people aware of safety when using the Internet.

In the 2016 cyber security strategy, the federal government decided to advance awareness-raising work with DsiN. The Digital Agenda 2014 to 2018 plans to intensify the cooperation with DsiN for digital education.

The aim of the association is to act as a point of contact for consumers and companies to provide specific assistance for more security awareness online. In cooperation with its members and partners, the association develops strategies and measures for safe handling in the digital world. DsiN sees itself as a partner for politics , social groups and science in the safe use of the Internet, especially in the area of ​​security in information technology . As an overarching institution, DsiN bundles the activities of companies, industry associations and clubs.

history

DsiN was launched as part of the 1st National IT Summit. In the presence of the then Federal Minister of Economics Wolfgang Clement , the former Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber and the then CEO of Microsoft , Bill Gates , the first promises of action were made. In 2007 the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs took over the patronage of DsiN.

Bottom-up: IT security vocational students

The project vocational students for IT security aims, small and medium enterprises ( SMEs raise awareness of digital risks and improve their IT security competence) to the project qualified vocational teachers , trainees in the dual education to train for IT security issues and practical To convey IT security knowledge, which in turn should be carried into the company via the students . The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the “IT Security in Business” initiative and supported by Google as a project partner.

Digital neighborhood

The "Digital Neighborhood" supports volunteers, association members and citizens in using the Internet safely. It answers the most important questions about security on the Internet: data protection, secure communication tools, conscious presentation on social media and safe online shopping. Interested associations and voluntary initiatives can find out more about digital opportunities and data security in voluntary work in workshops. The workshops are offered, among other things, in the nationwide local contact points, the so-called DiNa-Treffs. A total of 50 of these meetings are planned. The first DiNa-Treff was opened on July 3, 2019 in Heidelberg. In addition to the on-site workshops, the project has numerous online offers, such as webinars and learning videos.

Digital compass

The Digital-Kompass offers free offers to educate older people in the safe use of digital opportunities. There are also teaching materials, brochures, films, worksheets and practical tips for advice, and courses on the subject of the Internet and new media are also offered. In these so-called “digital round tables”, multipliers from senior work can talk to experts about current issues and exchange ideas with other active people. The digital compass is carried out by DsiN in conjunction with the Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organizations (BAGSO) and other partners.

DsiN security barometer (SiBa app)

The DsiN security barometer (SiBa) provides information on current security incidents on the Internet for private users and small businesses and is also available as an app . The barometer differentiates the security incidents according to the traffic light markings "green", "yellow" and "red" and shows help to protect yourself. The security barometer is a promise of action by DsiN in cooperation with Microsoft , Nokia and Deutsche Telekom .

DsiN safety index

The DsiN security index measures the digital security situation of consumers in Germany every year - in a key figure. For this, the personal threat situation of online users is compared to the individually practiced protective measures. The DsiN index also differentiates the security situation according to four types of consumers, which differ in security behavior and skills in the network. According to the security index, the security situation improved slightly between 2014 and 2016, and uncertainty about digital threats increased in the same period. From the results of this study, the association derives specific information needs from different consumer groups. The aim is to improve overall safety for all consumers through educational work and to reduce the safety gap. The next survey in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection will appear in June 2017.

MyDigitalWorld youth competition

The myDigitalWorld youth competition appeals to young Internet users to deal with the topic of "security on the Internet". The competition was created at the initiative of the German government's IT summit in 2014 and has been taking place since the 2016/2017 school year in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education . The task for 2016/2017 is “Hello, I am your digital me!” The sponsors of the 2017/2018 competition are DsiN members Deutsche Telekom and Google Germany . Blackberry, Ericsson , Facebook and Lancom Systems are involved as sponsors .

IT security @ medium-sized companies

The workshop series IT-Sicherheit @ Mittelstand on IT security issues in companies by DsiN and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) is aimed at managing directors and decision-makers in SMEs . The focus is on motivation, qualification and practical implementation of IT security measures. Experienced speakers provide practical tips for more security in small and medium-sized companies. The nationwide DsiN workshop series for IT security in small and medium-sized companies in cooperation with DIHK and IHKn takes place under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel .
