Peter Henschel (born January 6, 1943 in Zwickau ) was a soccer player and soccer coach in the GDR league at the company sports association Motor / Sachsenring Zwickau . As a player, he won the GDR soccer cup three times . Henschel is a junior and junior national player.

After Henschel had played soccer in the youth teams of the corporate sports association progress Zwickau between 1955 and 1959, he was delegated to BSG Motor Zwickau in early 1960. In the mammoth season 1961/62, which ran over 39 days due to the change of the game year from the calendar year to the autumn-spring rhythm, Henschel played his first games in the GDR league. In his first league season he was used in 21 point games. He was called up as a striker and scored eight goals as a newcomer. Already in the following season 1962/63 he had won a regular place in the Motor-Elf with 23 point games. He was mainly used as a half-left striker and as such won the GDR soccer cup for the first time at the end of the season with the motor team after a 3-0 win over Chemie Zeitz .

Henschel was able to keep his status as a major league regular with the exception of the 1970/71 season with only 13 point games until 1975. In the meantime, his sports club had renamed itself Sachsenring Zwickau in 1968. From 1971 he moved back to midfield, from 1973 he played Libero or Vorstopper . In 1967, after beating Hansa Rostock 3-0 in the final, he won the soccer cup for the second time, making it 3-0. As a pre-stopper, Henschel also took part in the third Zwickau Cup win in 1975 (5-4 victory on penalties over Dynamo Dresden). Henschel played his last league season in 1975/76. Mainly used as a pre-stopper, he completed another 14 point games by matchday 16, of which he played 13 over the full playing time.

When Henschel ended his career as a soccer player in the summer of 1976 at the age of 33, he could look back on 307 league games with 55 goals and eight European Cup games. He was team captain for several years. In addition to his three cup wins, Henschel was also able to record 3rd place in the championship 1966/67 as a success.

In 1960 he was accepted into the GDR junior national team, with which he played four international matches until 1961. In September 1963, Henschel played his only international match with the junior selection of communications . In the 0: 1 in Sofia against Bulgaria, he played half-left in his standard position.

Coaching career

While he was still active, Henschel had completed his training as a certified sports teacher and had been working as a sports teacher at a vocational school since 1974. With these prerequisites, he took over the position of responsible senior division coach at Sachsenring Zwickau in July 1979. After the team had just barely escaped relegation in the previous season with 12th place, Henschel led the Zwickauers in his first year as the best company sports club in the league to a secure 8th place. In the following season 1980/81 he could no longer build on his successful work. When he failed to get the team out of the relegation zone at the beginning of the second half of the season, he was dismissed as a coach in March 1981.

Further career

After 1990, Henschel was the managing director of the Zwickau handball club ZHC Grubenampe and was for a time on the board of directors of FSV Zwickau . He also appeared as an organizer of oldies soccer tournaments.
