The standard-gauge tank locomotives August-Thyssen-Hütte 1 and 2 of the August Thyssen-Hütte were steam locomotives without running axles for freight train operations that were built by Hanomag in 1928. They were in operation at the Werkbahn until 1962 and were then taken out of service and scrapped.

history

With the serial numbers 10616 and 10617 , Hanomag delivered the two locomotives for the August Thyssen-Hütte shortly before the end of its locomotive construction . They had 19 t axle load and were for heavy freight service from the train station Duisburg Grünstraße to the station Oberhausen West and Lohberg used. Due to their heavy weight and their five-axle design, the locomotives were considered to be rail eaters . Despite the two axles that could be moved laterally and the design of the driving axle without a flange , they could not be used freely, the locomotives could not run on certain routes with narrow track radii.

The locomotives were parked for a long time after the Second World War , as the run-down tracks of the factory railway did not allow them to be used. The number 1 was scrapped in 1955 without further use. Number 2 was refurbished in 1953 at considerable expense, continued to be used until 1962 and then scrapped.

construction

The superheated steam two-cylinder locomotives were equipped with a superheater according to the Schmidt system. The shape of the smoke chamber with a larger diameter than the usual boiler and the driver's cab with a skylight attachment resembled Prussian regional railway locomotives. The engine of the locomotive had a Heusinger control , the steam engine was equipped with piston valves . The water boxes with a capacity of 14 m³ reached on the side of the circulation almost to the smoke chamber.

The second axis was designed to be laterally displaceable by ± 10 mm, the fifth axis by ± 50 mm. In addition, the driving axle had no flange .

The locomotives had an exhaust steam injector , a steam dryer based on the Pantex system , feed water purifier , Bosch oiler, indirect brakes from Knorr and a Latowski type steam flare . Two sandboxes were arranged on the top of the boiler; there were four sand downpipes on each side of the engine, which sanded the second and fourth axles from the front and rear.
