August Ewald

August Ewald (born June 7, 1849 in Darmstadt , † 1924 ) was a German physiologist .

From 1867 he studied in Heidelberg, Berlin and Bonn and received his doctorate in 1873. From 1874 he was assistant to Wilhelm Kühne at the physiological institute in Heidelberg , where he worked on the photochemistry of the retina and examined the visual purple . In 1880 he qualified as a private lecturer and in 1883 became an associate professor of physiology and histology in Heidelberg .
