Friedrich August Forster

Friedrich August Förster (born July 30, 1829 in Oberseifersdorf ; † February 18, 1897 in Löbau ) was a German piano maker and entrepreneur . He is the founder of the August Förster piano factory based in Löbau.

Life

Förster initially trained as a carpenter . In addition to his work as a journeyman carpenter, he built and repaired musical instruments and received music lessons . He learned the basics of piano building from the Löbauer piano makers Hieke and Karl August Eule. In 1854 he was "released and acquitted" as an instrument maker.

As a result, Förster worked in various German cities before returning to Upper Lusatia , where he settled in Löbau on April 1, 1859 and set up a workshop on the second floor of a rear building. There he built his first piano. In 1862 Friedrich August Förster built his first factory building on today's Jahnstraße . This manufacturing facility is still the company's headquarters today. After his death on February 18, 1897, the company passed into the hands of his son Caesar Förster.
