Live and act

Hörig, who was born in Düben, completed an apprenticeship with a chimney sweep as a neglected child . Since he forced him to beg and steal, he was repeatedly sentenced to prison terms. Hörig, who later worked as a cigar worker, acquired extensive knowledge in self-study. In 1867 he moved to Hamburg , where a short time later he became an agent of the cigar workers' union and the Hamburg Lassallean . Hörig, who was considered a gifted speaker, chaired the committee for the Reichstag election in 1871.

Hörig wrote for the Hamburg-Altonaer Volksblatt , which was produced in the cooperative printing company, and also worked for a short time as the newspaper's editor. When the small state of siege came into force on October 25, 1880 , Hörig was one of the first social democrats to leave the Hanseatic city . From then on he was no longer politically active and maintained a small, not very profitable cigar trade until the end of his life.
