August Krause (politician)

August Krause (born April 16, 1884 in Libau , Russian Empire ; † January 28, 1948 in Bremen ) was a social democratic politician, parliamentarian and trade unionist who was politically active in what was then Oldenburg, especially in the 1920s.

Life

August Krause was born in Libau , now the Republic of Latvia, but grew up largely in Kiel because the family had to emigrate to Germany in 1887. He was a plasterer by training . Krause left Kiel in 1913 and worked in Dunwarden in the state of Oldenburg until 1919 , where he was also a union member. In December 1919 he became an employee of the agricultural workers' association in Bardewisch (also Oldenburg) and moved there. He married in 1918 and his wife Anni had five children. In 1933 he moved with his family to Bremen- Vegesack and worked as an insurance agent. He died in January 1948 as a result of a traffic accident.

Political activities

August Krause had been politically active from 1919, first as a member of the USPD (1919–1922), then of the SPD (from 1922). He sat twice as a member of the Oldenburg State Parliament : in 1921 as a representative of the USPD, who switched to the SPD in 1922 (until 1925) and then again from 1928 to 1932 for the SPD. From 1927 to 1933 he was also a member of the municipal council and the district council of the municipality of Bardewisch in Oldenburg. He was not politically active during the National Socialist period and lived in internal emigration.

Others

August Krause was a brother of the Munich art dealer and pacifist Karl Ludwig Krause . One of his grandchildren is the well-known software pioneer Kai Krause .
