After studying in Germany and obtaining a doctorate in philosophy, Tauscher first settled in Saint Petersburg in 1805 , shortly afterwards moved to Moscow and was accepted into the Moscow Society of Natural Scientists there, where he published his first scientific work. Count Alexei Kirillowitsch Razumovsky invited him to join the Botanical Garden at his country estate in Gorenki. Tauscher headed the zoological department of the museum and supplemented the collections with trade and purchases, but also brought together exhibits himself. Exchanger also described new species of insects, such as the narrow-leaf Schilfeule Noctua maritima exchanger , in 1806, which currently Chilodes maritima ( exchanger is provided, 1806), the tussock moths Orgyia dubia ( exchangers , 1806) and the cutworm Acontia melanura ( exchangers , 1809). In 1813 he left Russia and published in Germany his scientific experiences and observations made in Russia. He dedicated his publications to Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim . He also wrote about evolution, about the progressive development of the organic world and looked at our planet as a whole, in connection with its fauna and flora. He pointed out, among other things, that there are not only creative, but also destructive forces in nature that exist side by side. With many of his theses, Tauscher seemed to be ahead of his time, which only became increasingly topical around 200 years later. His research also aroused the interest of Goethe , who made similar considerations and wrote in a letter of September 30, 1817 to Tauscher at the end: "Since this way of thinking of you does not oppose mine, I am not averse to a text of your elaboration with a participating attention dedicate."
