August panning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Panning (* 1857 in Sendenhorst ; † February 7, 1922 in Werl ) was mayor of the city of Werl.

Panning was elected to office in 1888 and served as mayor for nearly 20 years. After the death of his predecessor Fickermann, he applied for the vacant mayor's office in a public tender. His salary was 3,600 marks. During his term of office, the Werler prison was opened (at that time still the royal central prison), the Ursuline convent was established and the rectorate school was restructured into a grammar school. A number of property law problems that arose as a result of the church and monastery legislation were resolved.

  • The Panning-Straße in Werl was named after him.
