August Rautenberg

August Rautenberg (born April 28, 1886 in Hörde , † April 16, 1957 in Bochum ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

The son of a blacksmith attended elementary school and then completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith and lathe operator in Welper . In 1911 he joined the Free Trade Union and in the same year he joined the SPD.

Rautenberg was a full-time alderman of the Blankenstein office from 1920 to 1933 , since 1920 a member of the German Local Council and since 1921 a member of the German District Council . Furthermore, he was from 1921 to 1933 a member of the main committee and the presidium of the Prussian rural community assembly West. In 1922 he moved his residence to Stiepel , where he later became involved in the workers' welfare and in 1925 co-founded the building cooperative "Heimat".

From 1929 to 1932 he was a substitute member of the Prussian state parliament .

After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Rautenberg had to resign from all political and social offices and in 1934 he had to renounce his pension entitlement. During the time of National Socialism he was temporarily imprisoned. From 1939 he worked as an employee at the trade association in Bochum.

After the Second World War , Rautenberg turned back to local politics. On May 2, 1945 he was appointed by the Allies as mayor in the office of Blankenstein. He held this position until 1946 and was then chief executive officer until he retired in April 1954. In addition, he was chairman of the regional council of Westphalia until 1955 and from 1947 to 1949 a member of the local political advisory council of the SPD.

Rautenberg was chairman of the supervisory board of the building cooperative "Heimat" in Bochum-Stiepel since September 1945 and since 1946 a member of the supervisory board of the United Electricity Works Westphalia AG . In addition, he held numerous honorary positions; He was chairman of the Westphalia community accident insurance association, member of the association committee of Westphalian-Lippe housing companies and member of the water advisory board at the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forests of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Honors

Rautenberg was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In April 1956 the municipality of Welper granted him honorary citizenship . After his death in 1959, Rautenbergstrasse in Stiepel was named after him.
