August Schlingmann

August Schlingmann (born October 17, 1901 in Lüdenscheid ; † November 12, 1993 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1950 to 1966 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia and from 1953 to 1961 Lord Mayor of the city of Lüdenscheid.

Life

After elementary school August Schlingmann did an apprenticeship as a locksmith . He studied from 1928 to 1929 at the Academy of Labor in Frankfurt. Before 1944 he had worked in industry, in 1946 and 1947 he worked as a tax auditor, then as SPD party secretary.

Schlingmann had become a union member in 1919 and joined the Socialist Workers' Youth . He became a member of the SPD in 1922. In Lüdenscheid he was elected councilor in 1929 and remained so until the end of the Weimar Republic in 1933. In 1952 he was re-elected to the city council, and in the following year 1953 he was elected mayor of the city of Lüdenscheid. He held the office until 1963. Schlingmann was elected to the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament as a direct candidate for the SPD in constituency 126 (Lüdenscheid-Altena-Land-West or Lüdenscheid-Stadt-Altena-Land-West) from the second to the fifth electoral term. From July 5, 1950 to July 23, 1966, he was a member of the state parliament.

On February 2, 1962 Schlingmann was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany and in 1966 the Ring of Honor of the city of Lüdenscheid.
