August Tilling

Johann August Tilling (born February 7, 1797 in Riga ; † July 2, 1861 ibid) was a Kurland lawyer.

Life

After August Tilling had attended the Gouvernementsgymnasium in Riga, he served in the Russian military from 1813 to 1816, where he became a hussar officer in the Russian-German Legion and in the Siberian Uhlan Regiment . After his retirement as an older cornet, he studied law from 1816 to 1817 at the University of Dorpat and from 1817 to 1819 at the University of Heidelberg. During his studies he became a member of the Curonia Dorpat. In 1817 he joined the Corps Curonia Heidelberg.

In 1823 Tilling became an actuary at the Hauptmannsgericht in Talsen and in 1823 a senior court attorney in Mitau. In 1833 he was appointed by the Russian Tsar to be a member of the Committee for Establishing the Basics of the Baltic Provincial Law. He was a member of the Reformed Session of the Courland Consistory.
