August Zöhrer

August Zöhrer (* 27. July 1888 in Sarleinsbach ; † 1. June 1971 in Linz ) was an Austrian local historian , writer , and director of the cultural department at the magistrate of Linz.

Life

August Zöhrer studied history and was built in 1912 at the University of Vienna with a thesis on "The settlement history of the Mühlviertel" to Dr. phil. PhD. After serving in the First World War , he joined the Linz City Administration in 1919 and was head of the municipal statistical office. He initiated the introduction of the Linz city archive and was head of the city's cultural office from 1938 to 1945. In 1945 Zöhrer was deposed and retired in 1948.

He wrote several scientific publications on the history of the city of Linz, as well as a treatise on the history of Sarleinsbach and essays on the Mühlviertel, as well as some philosophical and ideological writings.

Zöhrer is buried in the Pöstlingberg mountain cemetery.
