The Augusta Brewery (also called Augusta Bräu ) was a brewery based in Augsburg . It emerged from a small brewery with a beer tavern, which was first mentioned in a document in 1488. Over the centuries, the small brewery at Lauterlech Litera H 140-142 (today Lauterlech 10-14) developed into a modern brewery that produced around 23,000 hectoliters of beer at the end of the 1990s. In 2010, the company shut down its own production facilities in Jakobervorstadt for reasons of economy and transferred the beer production to the Unterbaar castle brewery . Since then, around 15,000 hectoliters of beer have been produced there annually and distributed by the Augusta brewery.

history

View of the Augusta Brewery

The starting point for the history of the Augusta brewery was a small house brewery with a beer tavern on Lauterlech north of the Jakobskirche . The existence of this house brewery was first documented in 1488. A letter of purchase from 1501 also indicates the brewing activity practiced in the property. In 1644 the beer bar Zum Osterlamm was set up there.

In order to remain competitive, the production facilities were modernized in 1851. Despite the increased production volumes, the financial situation did not improve. In 1899, Kronenbräu acquired the brewery and continued production on Lauterlech. A few years later, Kronenbräu also got into financial difficulties and so it was finally taken over by Hasen-Bräu in 1921 . In order to avoid overcapacities, Hasen-Bräu sold the brewery on Lauterlech again in the same year. During the Second World War, almost all the Augusta brewery buildings were destroyed in the air raids on Augsburg in February 1944.
