The Auguste Island ( French Île Auguste ) is an up to 42 m high, flattened and 1.3 km long island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is 4 miles northeast of Hummock Island on the Gerlache Strait .
The island was discovered during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . He named it after his father Théophile Adrien Auguste de Gerlache (1832–1901).
