Auguste Haouissée
Auguste Haouissée SJ (born October 1, 1877 in Évran , France , † September 10, 1948 ) was a French religious and first bishop of Shanghai .
Life
Auguste Haouissée joined the religious order of the Jesuits and was ordained a priest on June 10, 1910 . Pope Pius XI appointed him in 1928 as coadjutor of the then Apostolic Vicariate in Nanjing and appointed him titular bishop of Cercina . He received his episcopal ordination on October 3, 1928, Bishop Henri Lécroart SJ, Vicar Apostolic of Chi-Li; Co-consecrators were Bishop Adéodat-Jean-Roch Wittner OFM, Vicar Apostolic of Shantung, and Bishop André-Jean-François Defebvre CM, Vicar Apostolic of Ningpo .
In 1931 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic in Nanjing; 1933 as Vicar Apostolic in Shanghai . After the elevation of the Vicariate Shanghai to the Diocese of Shanghai on April 11, 1946 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed its first bishop.
