Auguste Jouve
Auguste Jouve (born July 11, 1846 in Lyon , † after 1899) was a French painter , sculptor and photographer . He was the father of the much better known painter and sculptor Paul Jouve .
Life
Auguste Jouve trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and later moved to Paris . He was friends with Theo and Vincent van Gogh and the animal painter Olivier de Penne . Jouve painted landscapes and portraits and created ceramics . One of his preferences was photography. He worked with a Bellini camera, which his son Paul also used in the beginning. According to Suisse, Jouve is said to have received a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1899 , which is impossible because it did not take place until 1900 - but perhaps he will participate in its preparation in 1899. Three of his paintings are in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam , u. a. one of his wife Louise Jouve with a lap dog ; a flower still life is in the possession of the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum .
