Auguste Staudinger

Auguste Staudinger (born April 22, 1852 in Darmstadt ; † November 16, 1944 there ; née Wenck ) was a German women's rights activist .

Life

Staudinger, of Protestant denomination, was born in Darmstadt as the daughter of the doctor Emil Wenck and his wife, Johanna Schenck. Staudinger married the high school professor Franz Staudinger in 1875 ; the marriage resulted in four children:

  • Wilhelm (born April 8, 1877, † June 25, 1969), zoo director
  • Luise (born August 1, 1879, † May 8, 1967), sculptor
  • Hermann (born March 23, 1881, † September 8, 1965), chemist and Nobel Prize winner
  • Hans (born August 16, 1889, † February 25, 1980), Professor of Economics

Staudinger was the founder of the Darmstadt local branch of the General German Women's Association and, until 1906, its first chairwoman.
