It is housed in the former monastery of the Augustinian hermits in Rattenberg, founded in 1385 , which was  taken over by the Servites in 1817 . In 1971 the monastery was abandoned and the building complex was converted into a museum, which opened in 1993.

With its Gothic cloister, the late Gothic Hofer Chapel, the baroque Ecce Homo - Chapel and the great monastery church is one of the outstanding historical monuments of the region.
