Augusto Sarmiento Rosillo

Augusto Sarmiento Rosillo (* 1927 in Bucaramanga , Colombia ) is a Colombian trauma surgeon and orthopedic surgeon .

He is the first Colombian to be elected President of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and one of the first surgeons to perform hip replacement surgery in the United States. He is the inventor of the Sarmiento plaster (also called brace), used for the conservative treatment of humeral shaft fractures . Sarmiento has also served as Medical Director of the University of Miami Orthopedic School , Head of Orthopedic Rehabilitation at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Director of Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics at Health Care International in Scotland. Rosillo has received numerous American and international awards.
