Aukirche

The Aukirche is a church at Goppelstrasse 5 in the northern industrial area of Heilbronn . It was built as a Protestant church and is today the church of the Heilbronn parish of St. Constantine and Helena of the Greek Orthodox metropolis of Germany .

history

The first Aukirche is mentioned in 1907. The old Aukirche was destroyed in the air raid of December 4, 1944 , and an emergency barrack donated by the Ecumenical Council in Geneva was inaugurated next to the ruins on March 3, 1946 .

In 1956 an architecture competition was announced for the new building. The first prize went to the submission by the architect Gustav Kistenmacher and the engineer G. Störzbach. The chairman of the jury was Otto Bartning . The new Aukirche was inaugurated on April 28, 1957. The church is a central building that has been provided with a tent- shaped roof structure (a tent roof ).

In 1995 the parishes of Au and Wartberg merged to form today's parish of Wartberg-Au. As a result, the Aukirche was vacant and was later sold to the Greek Orthodox community.
