The auction house Peter Rapp (officially Peter Rapp AG ) is a Swiss auction house for stamps in Wil SG . It is one of the largest auction platforms in the field of philately .

history

Opening auction in the 1985 office building in Wil

Peter Rapp (* 1945 in Uzwil ) learned the basics of philatelic work at a German auction house in the 1960s and ran the Schwenn branch in Zurich . In 1970, when the Schwenn auction house was dissolved, he founded his own stock corporation based in Wil. He carried out his first auctions in 1971 in the station buffet in Zurich , and since 1985 in his own auction house in Wil. The stock corporation is still family-owned and is managed by Peter Rapp and his daughter Marianne Rapp Ohmann.

In 1979, stamps worth CHF 25 million were auctioned off. In 1980 an auction with a volume of 33.2 million Swiss francs resulted in an entry in the Guinness Book of Postage Stamps.

In 2008 the auction house auctioned a copy of the light blue rayon brand Rayon I with a complete cross border, issued in 1850, for 348,000 Swiss francs. This makes it the most expensive Swiss individual postage stamp ever sold. In 2013 the Gscheidle brand achieved high sales. This stamp was destroyed by the Deutsche Bundespost before it was published. However, due to the Gscheidle error , 24 well-known brands came into circulation. In 2014 a letter with a single Basel pigeon was sold for 103,700 francs.

The auction house is also dedicated to numismatics and auctions medals such as those of the Hungarian national soccer player László Budai . In 2017 it presented the exhibition " L'Excellence Suisse - Switzerland's Most Precious Coins ".
