Ault Wharrie is a villa in the Scottish town of Dunblane in the Stirling Council Area . In 1985 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest monument category A.

history

The villa was built in 1900 for the businessman J. B. Stewart , co-owner of the Stewarts & Lloyds company . The Scottish architect George Henry Walton was responsible for the design . Ault Wharrie was later redesigned. The Pullar family, originally from Perth , acquired the villa during the century. Ault Wharrie later housed a nursing home. After the nursing home moved into a new building on the property, the villa had been vacant since 2001 at the latest. In 2008 it was inscribed on the Register of Listed Buildings at Risk in Scotland. In 2012, however, their condition was classified as relatively good with low risk. In 2015, an application to subdivide the villa into two residential units as part of a restoration and to demolish newer extensions was granted.

Ault Wharrie stands on the edge of the forest on the southeast edge of Dunblane. Designed by the famous architect George Walton, the villa is designed in the style of the Glasgow School . Its masonry is made of red brick with offset sandstone details . The asymmetrically constructed villa is essentially three-story with protruding two-story building parts. Essential is Walton's interior. This includes the high-quality wood paneling as well as stairways with bevelled balusters . The open fireplace in the living room has a simple frieze . It is Walton's first draft of a living room that does not have a continuous pattern. The specially designed built-in furniture is designed with glass elements and octagonal columns.
