Aulus Terentius Varrò Murena ( Italian Aulo Terenzio Varro Murena ; † 24 BC ) was a Roman general and politician.

He was the biological son of Aulus Terentius Varro and adopted brother of Lucius Licinius Varro Murena . His sister Terenzia married the powerful Gaius Maecenas , adviser to Augustus . 25 BC Aulus carried out a military expedition against the Salasser , a tribe in what is now the Aosta Valley province , on behalf of Augustus . At the time, this caused problems for the Romans in the strategically important region of the Great St. Bernhard . He could defeat the Salasser. According to Strabo , they were enslaved en masse . 24 BC BC Murena founded a Colonia Augusta Praetoria Salassorum ( Aosta ) in the center of the Salasser area with 3000 settlers. Together with Augustus he became consul for the year 23 BC. Elected. But he died at the beginning of his consulate. Gnaeus Calpurnius Piso was elected to succeed him. Shortly after his death, his adoptive brother, Lucius Licinius Varro Murena, was accused of plotting against Augustus with Fannius Caepio.
