Aurélien Scholl (born July 13, 1833 in Bordeaux , † April 16, 1902 in Paris ) was a French journalist and writer .

Life

Born in Bordeaux, Scholl began to publish a series of socialist texts in the local newspaper L'Echo Rochelais at the age of 15 . He left Bordeaux in 1851 to go to Paris. Here he wrote for various newspapers such as Le Corsaire and L'Éclair before working as an editor for the art magazine L'Artiste . In 1857 he switched to the newspaper Le Figaro , where he wrote the weekly satire Les Coulisses for four years , in which he described life in Paris in a humorous way. He left the newspaper in 1863 to compete with Figaro to found Le Nain jaune . Renowned authors such as Charles Monselet , Théodore de Banville , Henri Rochefort and Francisque Sarcey worked for this newspaper, which existed until 1876 . He also wrote for the newspapers Le Voltaire , L'Événement , L'Écho de Paris and Le Matin . In addition, Scholl published several novels and wrote various plays.
