The Aurkvævane consist of three basins with a valley floor littered with moraine rubble in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . They are located on the west side of the mountain Kvævefjellet in the Payer group of Hoelfjella .
The cauldrons were discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . A new mapping based on surveys and further aerial photographs was carried out during the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
