The Hoelfjella is a mountain range in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . The Payer Group and the Weyprecht Mountains belong to this mountain range .
The first aerial photographs of the mountains were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers named it and mapped it on the basis of aerial photographs and measurements of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). It is named after the Norwegian geologist and Arctic researcher Adolf Hoel (1879–1964).
