The Weyprecht Mountains are a small group of mountains in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . They rise 16 km west of the Payer group and form the western half of Hoelfjella .
The mountains were discovered and named during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . It is named after the German polar explorer Carl Weyprecht (1838–1881), who led the Austro-Hungarian North Pole Expedition (1872–1874) together with Julius von Payer .
