The Aurora Glacier is a large glacier on the Antarctic Ross Island . It flows south from the area between Mount Erebus and Mount Terra Nova into the Ross Ice Shelf .
The New Zealand mountaineer and glaciologist Arnold John Heine named it after the Aurora , the ship of the Ross Sea Party as part of the endurance expedition (1914-1917) of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton .
