The Aurora Subglacial Basin (English: Aurora Subglacial Basin ) is a large, completely covered by glacial ice basin west of the Dome Charlie , which extends in a north-westerly direction to the coast not far from the Shackleton Ice Shelf .
Its extent was determined by sonar tracking as part of a joint program of the Scott Polar Research Institute , the National Science Foundation and Denmark's Technical University between 1967 and 1979. It is named after the research ship Aurora , which was used as part of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) and for the Ross Sea Party in the Endurance Expedition (1914-1914).
