Frankenwarte observation tower

The observation tower Frankenwarte is an observation tower built in 1894 on the Frankenwarte , the Nikolausberg , from which one has a good panoramic view over Würzburg . The tower built by the Würzburg Beautification Association (construction started in 1893) is 44.5 meters high with or 37.5 meters without the weather vane on its top. A staircase with 173 steps leads to its viewing platform.

The property on which the observation tower stands was bequeathed to the association; The association was able to accept many donations from the citizens for the construction. Since these were not used up after the construction, a green area was designed around the observation tower with the remaining funds.

In the vicinity of the Frankenwarte observation tower, Bayerischer Rundfunk operates a transmission system for medium wave , VHF and television with a 111-meter-high, guyed, self-radiating transmission mast that is insulated from earth as an antenna carrier, and Deutsche Telekom AG has a transmission system for directional radio , VHF and TV with two grounded, guyed transmitter masts (height: 118 meters and 85 meters).
