The Main-Echo is the largest daily newspaper in the Bavarian Lower Main . The sold circulation is 64,088 copies, a decrease of 28.5 percent since 1998. The newspaper is published by the publishing house and printer Main-Echo GmbH & Co. KG. The headquarters and printing center of the medium-sized family company with around 300 employees are located in Aschaffenburg ; Affiliated are seven further service points, spread over the Mainviereck .

distribution

The distribution area extends over the city and the district of Aschaffenburg , the district of Miltenberg , the district of Main-Spessart and adjacent areas in southern Hesse and northern Baden, i.e. includes areas in three federal states. The Main-Echo appears in eight editions - among them the titles Bote vom Untermain , Lohrer Echo and Wertheimer Zeitung .

Like most German daily newspapers , the Main-Echo has lost circulation since the 2000s . The number of copies sold has fallen by an average of 2.1% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 3.1%. It is currently 64,088 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 92 percent.

  • The magazine top shop has a circulation of well over 230,000 copies and provides weekly information to all households in the Main Echo distribution area. In six local editions, the magazine reports in a boulevard-esque style "across all topics that concern everyone".
  • The Main-Echo-Kurier on the weekend contains the advertisements of the Main-Echo weekend edition and is free of charge to non-newspaper subscribers in the Bavarian Lower Main.
  • The Spessart magazine describes the peculiarities and history of this cultural landscape in around 3,000 copies every month.
  • The phone book for the areas of Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg summarizes phone numbers and addresses in the region. The volumes have already been awarded the innovation prize of the Association of Independent Telephone Book Publishers.

The Main-Echo can be found online via the main-echo.de website. Since at least March 2018, users with an activated ad blocker have been locked out.

history

The first edition of the Main-Echo appeared on November 24, 1945 . The American military administration had after the end of the Third Reich the editor August Graef and Jean Stock issued the license to issue a democratic newspaper for the Lower Main.

The company is managed in the third generation by the descendants of Wilhelm Engelhard, who acquired a license share in 1946 and formed and expanded the company over almost four decades.
