Hörlitz observation tower

The Hörlitz observation tower is located in Hörlitz in the municipality of Schipkau in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in Brandenburg.

In place of the former water tower on the Paradiesberg, the tower was built in 2004 and inaugurated on April 7, 2004. The water tower (a Bismarck tower) was blown up on January 20, 1965 due to the advance of the Meuro opencast mine . The observation tower was built at a height of 137 meters above sea level. The steel tower has a height of 33.5 meters. The viewing platform at a height of 27 meters can be reached via 144 steps. Due to complaints from residents, the tower was closed in 2006. Subsequently, screens were attached and the tower can be climbed again.

The disused bucket wheel excavator SRs 1500 can be seen from the tower on the site of the former opencast mine and the Lausitzring .
